Granada

Lake Nicaragua (Cocibolca)

A short stay in Granada is never enough to see all the beauty this city and its surrounding areas have to provide. As the oldest city in Nicaragua, it has much beauty and character to offer. The city is more than a colonial jewel situated at the South west end of Lake Nicaragua, otherwise known as Lago Cocibolca. The city is a basin of cultural heritage that is famous for its colonialism, its invasions, battles, and commerce. The lake consists of 365 islands for every day of the calendar year. It is unique as it is the only fresh water lake in the world that can provide life for sharks, the Sweet Water sharks! Rent a boat, kayak, or take a tour to explore and experience all the beauty the lake has to offer.

The Central park where the grand famous Cathedral sits is a nice place to start exploring Granada. You can see an abundance of colonial buildings as well as enjoying an affordable Nicaraguan Vigerones while cooling down with a cold Toña.

Close to the park you can locate one of Granada's famous museums, the Convent San Francisco. The building is one of the most important buildings in the city and you can find a lot of information about the ancient pre Columbian cultures and many artifacts.

From the park down to the lake you find the Calle La Calzada. It's a long street lined with many bars and restaurants. Here you can sit down, enjoy your drink and see how the Nicaraguans entertain the you. Here you can find a diversity of restaurants from Pizza, to steak, fish or an Irish pub; there is something for everyone.

The Market

The market with all the colors and aromas is something you must experience. It's open every day and all day; walk through it and feel the atmosphere. It's a busy place but you will notice the people to be friendly and are more than willing to help you find what you are looking for.

Mombacho

Right outside Granada you will find the Volcan Mombacho. The Volcano can be reached easily via the local busses or if you want to spend a little more money we can arrange a knowledgeable tour guide for you. The local busses are close by and in just about 20 minutes you will arrive at Mambacho at the cost of less than 10 cordobas. Due to the height of the Volcano, there is a cloud forest home to many plant and animal species. The Volcano is abundant with rich flora and fauna where you will have a large chance to see the monkeys and some of the world's most beautiful butterflies. There are several trails you can hike from 30 minutes up to 4 hours. At the top is a visitor's center which can provide guides whenever needed. On clear days you can see Granada and the lake with all the islands. One of the activities on the volcano must be mentioned. Here is the place where you can do a spectacular Canopy tour that is different from all the others canopy tours in Latin America. Try it to find out what makes it different.

Just walking around the city will give you a good impression of what the city has to offer, but you can also take one of the horse pulled carriages to explore the beauty!

Masaya

Visit the Volcan Masaya or the city of Masaya itself. The Volcano is still active and at night you can see the lava as it flows inside the crater. You reach the top in little busses where guides are provided to share the history of the volcano.

There is so much more to tell about Granada and the surroundings it's impossible to tell everything right here; just come over and have a look and you won't be disappointed.
